Human Duties

A very important question is how and where from should one start traveling towards the path of spirituality? The answer is given in the 'NISKAMA KARMAYOGA' of Sree Gita. This 'NISKAMA KARMAYOGA' can be explained by five sentences. Firstly, we have to perform our duties responsibilities and remember that God is watching us. If we take the oath that we will serve our society then our inner soul is our 'GURU'. He stays within us and He will guide us what to do and not to. Once Sri Sri 108 Swami Janakidasji Kathiababa ordered one of his disciples to clean the door of the temple. He was cleaning the door using an acid like material and he discovered that something is there and after sometime when the door was cleaned he saw that there was a image of Radha-Krishna. Janakidasji Kathiababa asked him whether he was able to see the image from outside. He replied that it was not visible. While guruji asked the reason he answered that the dirt outside the door made it invisible. Guruji told that the same thing happens to our inner world. God is always there but we are unable to realize Him because our mind is not clean. God is revealed to pure and holy soul. 'WATCH' is a very important word that can help us to do our duties well. We should watch our 'Word' (The first 'W' of 'WATCH' is for 'Word'). We should take care about every word that we speak. We should not speak any kind of words that could hurt others. Next comes the alphabet 'A' that stands for 'Action'. We should watch our action. Are we doing the right thing or not? Next we should watch our 'Thought' ('T' is for thought). Are we thinking good or not? And we should watch our 'Character' ('CH' stands for Character). Character is very valuable thing. We have to keep it in mind that God is watching us always. If anyone has any problem to obey God he/she can think about an invisible strength that is all pervaded. Einstein told during his research on atom " There is something which I can feel but I can't express in my tongue". He told one more thing elsewhere that this world is like a closed watch, one can describe its different parts but this may not be the real picture. We don't possess the key to open that watch. Kant told that world is "unknown and unknowable". But God is not unknown and unknowable. It is possible to realize God. So, the first thing is to perform our duties keeping it in mind that God is watching us. Secondly, we have to do our duties with sincerity and concentration. Whatever we do is our worship to our God and we will not expect anything in return. We have come to this earth only to give not to take. If my mind goes against it we should say to my mind that God is watching me. Thirdly, if we do our duties like this lot of obstacles, problem will come. Performing duties like this indifferent manner is very difficult but as a follower of the path of "NISKAMA KARMAYOGA" we have to endure all these obstacles. We would not leave our ideal. Fourth thing is, we should keep it in mind that we have very little time in our hand. So we will not waste our time in worthless things. We should make us engaged in doing our duties and noble works. Fifth one is, we have 24 hours in a day and if we take one minute from each hour it results 24 minutes. This 24 minute are ours', we will spend these minutes in meditating, thinking of our God. We should criticize ourselves, what I have done in a day, what I should do and what shouldn't. Self criticism helps one to serve the society and service of humanity and society will bring one towards God. This is all what "NISKAMA KARMAYOGA" is. Anyone can follow this.

When do you think you are worthy of deserving God? There will be reasons for getting disturbed, but nothing will actually disturb you, you wont be angry with anybody, you wont feel jealous of anyone, no one will be able to make you feel insulted, when you will be free from attachments, lust, wrath, indignity, only then one is suitable for deserving God. God tests His followers, but He does that only to pass him in His test. Garibdasji was an ardent follower of Ramdasji Kathiababa. He used to cook food for Kathiababa. But Kathiababa used to mix excess salt to his food and throw away the food and rebuke him with insulting words. Yet, Garibdasji used to remain unperturbed, and continued his chores with a smiling face. Oneday, Garibdasji had to carry Kathiababa's heavy things for a very long distance under scorching heat of the sun. Then on reaching the destination, he had to cook for about one and a half thousand sages. He himself could not have any food, but he made soft chapatis specially for Kathiababa. Kathiababa thought that was the perfect time to test Garibdasji's devotion. So he started shouting over Garibdasji, telling that the food was inedible and threw it away. Garibdasji stood there fatigued with a stooping head. Then Kathiababa took a stick and stroke his head with that. Blood came out of his head. Garibdasji then threw himself on Babaji Maharaj's foot and asked for his forgiveness. Then Kathiababa smiled and said, "You are now a Saint Garibdas, you have finally attained sanctimoniousness.
